Ferocacti, also known as "Barrel Cacti", are known for their beautiful spine formation. They are Native to the Southwest and Mexico. Their environment is very dry. They are a type of cactus that grows slowly and they do not get very tall.
Gymnocalycium is also known as 'Hibotan' or "Moon Cactus". When a cactus lacks chlorophyll, it is colored red, yellow, or orange instead of green. Because the seedlings did not have chlorophyll, they were not able to produce their own food through photosynthesis. In this case, the seedlings were grafted on top of another green cactus so that they could get chlorophyll to survive.
Rebutia are small cacti from South America. They are globular and have very small spines. Their flowers are small and funnel shaped. They close at night and reopen in the morning. These plants come in many colors.
